What is it?
The BT-328 is the latest Bluetooth GPS from Globalsat.
Built with the latest GSC2 low power technology. It
combines performance with low cost creating an entry

Why is it
different?
The BT-328 is running
the new SiRF GSC2 chipset. What does this mean? It has a lower power
consumption which means whilst maintaining gps performance, it improves
battery life. This allows for a smaller, longer life battery!
Because of this, the BT-328
is very light and durable with a whopping battery life of 16 hours
when used continuously, and will automatically switch off if not
connected for 10 minutes. If you happen to be running the device
without external power, and happen to be stuck in a traffic jam,
simply switch off your pda/phone, and the gps will auto-power off
itself. If however you need to use it again within that first 10
minutes, it will still be waiting, simply reconnect.
Surprised by the lack
of weight, I compared the BT-328 with several other gps devices.
The BT-328 weighed in at 64g the BT-338 93g and the 'Holux GR-230'
72g. The result was a little surprising, the BT-328 was 31% lighter
than the BT-338 both having the same battery life. The BT-328 was
also 11.2% lighter than the 'Holux GR-230' (an inferior device with
less than half the battery life and much lower signal strength than
the BT-328).
Why use Bluetooth
and not a wired gps?
Bluetooth gets rid of
the hassle of having to keep everything together in one place. It
allows you to choose the best place for signal strength; this could
mean any where in a car/van or even a lorry, since Bluetooth’s range
is 10 meters.
It’s excellent for hiking
or cycling/motorbike since the GPS can be put in a pocket/bag, saving
you from having to hold it, as well as keeping it safe. It also
means you don’t have an impractical adapter hanging over the edge
of your pocket pc, adding to the weight, and reducing functionality,
as in most compact flash solutions!
