What is it?

Adapt AD-850 Bluetooth GPS receiver with a 44 Channel chipset.

Data Logger

Yes! Very exciting! NavPAL's first GPS product with inbuilt data logging functionality! Simply setup the device using a bluetooth PC/Laptop, then plug it back in once you've been travelling around visiting all your exciting destinations. This data can then be uploaded onto Google maps to showing your whole journey at street level; anywhere!

If you set the device to record its position every 30 seconds it will last 41.6 days before running out of data logging room!

Extra Features

Not only does this device offer 20 hours of battery life, it has an on/off switch and not a push button. This means that you can hardwire it into your car, remove the battery and the device will turn on and off with your ignition!

Geocaching and Hiking Suitability?

With its excellent 20 hour battery life, as well as its superior satellite tracking technology, this device is excellent for geocaching. With the combined data logger you can even record where you have been, and upload onto Google maps after; for free!

Performance

With 44 channels this device has superior satellite tracking. Allowing it to pick up fainter satellite timings so you wont be left stranded without a signal, not knowing where to go next.

Put simply the more satellites (also referred to as channels generally 32,20 or 12) that the GPS receiver can track, the weaker the signals/timings sent form the satellites the device can process and use. In a good signal area, once the device has locked onto a dozen satellites, the difference performance between different models is small. The real difference is apparent in areas such as valleys, woodlands or cities with tall rise buildings. In these situations, the more satellites your receiver can track, the less problems you will have maintaining a lock and not loosing signals, as soon as you do loose the locks on the satellites your navigation software will be useless, and it will be time to get out the maps.

Why use Bluetooth and not a wired gps?

Bluetooth brings an end to the hassle of having to keep everything together in one place. It allows you to choose the best spot for signal strength; whether in your car/van or even a lorry (since Bluetooth has a range of 10 meters), you sit in the driving seat with your software, the GPS sits in the best signal area.

It is especially handy for for hiking, cycling or when motorcycling since the GPS can be put in a pocket or a bag, keeping your hands free, as well as your device safe.

As with other solutions you wont have an impractical adapter hanging over the edge of your Pocket PC, adding to the weight, reducing functionality, as in most Compact Flash GPS solutions!
